My mother's parents were from Mexico, exactly where, I am not sure, but they could have been any one of the people I saw and recorded in my paintings.
My mother died several years ago, lending a special poignancy to the images of patient Indian women sitting for hours at market by their small pile of produce grown on a little farm, or a heavy straw basket of corn tortillas , I could see my mother's face. They didn't smile often; my mother didn't either.
